Craft-based activism has been used as a tool of resistance, community building, and even espionage! Learn from Shannon Downey—a leader in the modern craftivism movement. She introduces her global project and teaches you how to embroider in just minutes so you can join in.
Shannon Downey better known as Badass Cross Stitch, is a community organizer disguised as a fiber artist. She blends her activism and art into projects that are designed to inspire others to take action, think, discuss, engage with democracy and their community, and find some digital/analog balance. She has been featured nationally with her projects on the Kelly Clarkson Show and BBC News and others.
Materials needed: Embroidery Hoop, Light colored cotton fabric, embroidery floss, tapestry or embroidery needle, water soluble marking pen or pencil, scissors
