Far-Flung Fairy Tales with Barry Stewart Mann

July 9, 2020 @ 6:00 pm - 6:30 pm

Favorite fairy tales can be found in far-flung places. We’ll explore variations of familiar stories from around the globe with storyteller Barry Stewart Mann (live on the Irondale Public Library Facebook page). We’ll hear about Lon Po Po, in Ed Young’s retelling of the Chinese Little Red Riding Hood; John Steptoe’s Mufaro’s Beautiful Daughters, a magical Cinderella story from Zimbabwe; Virginia Hamilton’s Caribbean Rumpelstiltskin, The Girl Who Spun Gold; and Paco and Giant Chile Plant, a reimagining of Jack and the Beanstalk from Keith Polette. There’ll be props, costumes, puppets, masks, music, and surprises to amaze and delight. Recommended for ages 5-12, but all are welcome.
