These creatures have always been friendly\, if occasionally mischievous\, but recently fey beings and even trees have begun attacking hunters\, and several people have gone into the forest and never come back out. The authorities are worried\, and have asked the Player Characters\, a mostly-retired adventuring party\, to journey into the forest to the Fey Court to investigate. \nAmy Smith (our DM) will supply the character sheets for this session so we can just focus on play. No dice needed\, Roll20 has virtual dice. \nHow to join this program:\n— Must be between the ages 10+\n— players need access to a PC with a microphone and internet access\n— Before the session\, Create a free account with Roll20\, an online gaming platform : https://roll20.net/

SUMMARY:Book Club Discussion: The Weight of Ink by Rachel Kadish
DESCRIPTION:The IPL Book Club meets the 2nd Monday of the month\, January – October.\nCurrently\, we are meeting online through Zoom meetings.\nTo attend\, send an email to Michelle at Librarian@IrondaleLibrary.org\, or fill in the form below\, or message us through Facebook.\nWe will send you an invitation to the Zoom Meeting along with instructions for Zoom.\n\nAbout The Weight of Ink:\nWinner of a 2017 National Jewish Book Award\n-From rachelkadish.com\nSet in London of the 1660s and of the early twenty-first century\, The Weight of Ink is the interwoven tale of two women of remarkable intellect: Ester Velasquez\, an emigrant from Amsterdam who is permitted to scribe for a blind rabbi\, just before the plague hits the city; and Helen Watt\, an ailing historian with a love of Jewish history.\n\nAs the novel opens\, Helen has been summoned by a former student to view a cache of seventeenth-century Jewish documents newly discovered in his home during a renovation. Enlisting the help of Aaron Levy\, an American graduate student as impatient as he is charming\, and in a race with another fast-moving team of historians\, Helen embarks on one last project: to determine the identity of the documents’ scribe\, the elusive “Aleph.”\nElectrifying and ambitious\, sweeping in scope and intimate in tone\, The Weight of Ink is a sophisticated work of historical fiction about women separated by centuries\, and the choices and sacrifices they must make in order reconcile the life of the heart and mind.\n\n\n \n \n Event Sign Up\n \n \n CommentsThis field is for validation purposes and should be left unchanged.Name*\n \n \n \n First\n \n \n \n \n Last\n \n \n Email*\n \n Comments

SUMMARY:Book Club Discussion: The Gown by Jennifer Robson
DESCRIPTION:The IPL Book Club meets the 2nd Monday of the month\, January – October.\nCurrently\, we are meeting online through Zoom meetings. To attend\, send an email to Michelle at Librarian@IrondaleLibrary.org\, or message us through Facebook. We will send you an invitation to the Zoom Meeting along with instructions for Zoom. \nAbout The Gown:\nFrom The Washington Post: When Princess Elizabeth’s engagement to Philip Mountbatten was announced in 1947\, her wedding dress was the subject of speculation and intrigue in war-exhausted England. English designer Norman Hartnell (an inspiration for “Phantom Thread”) was given the commission\, and the gown — with a 15-foot train of tulle embroidered with “York roses . . . star flowers\, ears of wheat\, jasmine blossoms\, and smilax leaves\,” plus crystal beads and pearls — was a Botticelli-inspired work of art. It’s the work behind that art that forms the through-line of Jennifer Robson’s compelling and informative novel “The Gown.”

Their lawsuits were key to reinforcing the U.S.’s nascent workplace safety standards. With their cautionary tales in mind\, scientists on the Manhattan Project learned to protect themselves from radiation.

SUMMARY:Online Book Club: The Giver of Stars/ Jojo Moyes
DESCRIPTION:The IPL Book Club meets the 2nd Monday of the month\, January – October.\nCurrently\, we are meeting online through Zoom meetings. To attend\, send an email to Michelle at Librarian@IrondaleLibrary.org\, or message us through Facebook. We will send you an invitation to the Zoom Meeting along with instructions for Zoom. \nAbout the Book: The Giver of Stars by Jojo Moyes \nSet in Depression-era America\, a breathtaking story of five extraordinary women and their remarkable journey through the mountains of Kentucky and beyond\, from the author of Me Before You and The Peacock Emporium. Alice Wright marries handsome American Bennett Van Cleve hoping to escape her stifling life in England. But small-town Kentucky quickly proves equally claustrophobic\, especially living alongside her overbearing father-in-law. So when a call goes out for a team of women to deliver books as part of Eleanor Roosevelt’s new traveling library\, Alice signs on enthusiastically. The leader\, and soon Alice’s greatest ally\, is Margery\, a smart-talking\, self-sufficient woman who’s never asked a man’s permission for anything. They will be joined by three other singular women who become known as the Horseback Librarians of Kentucky. What happens to them — and to the men they love — becomes a classic drama of loyalty\, justice\, humanity and passion. Though they face all kinds of dangers\, they’re committed to their job — bringing books to people who have never had any\, sharing the gift of learning that will change their lives. Based on a true story rooted in America’s past\, The Giver of Stars is unparalleled in its scope. At times funny\, at others heartbreaking\, this is a richly rewarding novel of women’s friendship\, of true love\, and of what happens when we reach beyond our grasp for the great beyond.– From publisher’s description.

\nAbout the book: \nJust Mercy A Story of Justice and Redemption by Bryan Stevenson \nFrom one of the most brilliant and influential lawyers of our time comes an unforgettable true story about the redeeming potential of mercy. Bryan Stevenson was a gifted young attorney when he founded the Equal Justice Initiative\, a legal practice dedicated to defending the poor\, the wrongly condemned\, and those trapped in the furthest reaches of our criminal justice system. One of his first cases was that of Walter McMillian\, a young man sentenced to die for a notorious murder he didn’t commit. The case drew Stevenson into a tangle of conspiracy\, political machination\, and legal brinksmanship – and transformed his understanding of mercy and justice forever.–Back cover.
