She formerly reported for the world’s largest news organization\, Reuters International News Service reaching 1 billion readers and 417\,000 media outlets around the world. \nHer writing has won numerous awards including a lifetime achievement award from the National Federation of Presswomen. \nIn Alabama\, you may have seen her work as a commentator for Capitol Journal for Alabama Public Television and for reporting the weekly news wrap for Troy Public Radio during All Things Considered. \nIn 2006\, Gates founded Fresh Air Family (www.freshairfamily.org)\, a state-wide organization dedicated to outdoor education.
