DESCRIPTION:The 2015 MLK Jr. Unity Breakfast was a launch pad for a community-wide dialogue project called Magic City Crossings based on the award-winning book\, Some of My Best Friends Are Black\, by Tanner Colby. \nCommunity-wide discussions\, led by trained facilitators\, will be designed to connect people in a discussion about issues with significant racial implications. \nDiscussion groups have been organized in the Birmingham area between February 22 and 29\, and one of them will take place at the Irondale Public Library on Monday\, February 23\, from 11:30 AM to 1:30 PM.åÊ The event is FREE\, but you need to register here. \nThis project is being led by REV Birmingham’s Community Action Committee\, The Bethesda Life Center with support from the office of Joyce Vance\, the U.S. Attorney – Northern District Alabama.

Pick up applications in the library or download from www.irondalelibrary.org. \nArt paper (9×12) is available at Irondale Library if you wish to use it.åÊThe top 15 pieces in each of the 4 grade categories will be mounted and put on displayåÊin the library from Monday\, September 19 through Friday\, September 29. \nRibbons will be awarded for first\, second and third place in each category by 1 PM on Saturday\, September 24.( during ‘ÛWhistle StopÛ) Judging will be provided by 3 members of the Irondale Arts Council. \nPrizes will be awarded to the 4\, first place winners during the City Council meeting on October 4\, 206.

DESCRIPTION:ClassåÊDescription:åÊ Throughout history\, many different cultures have made paper out of various organic fibers.åÊ In this hands-on workshop we will discuss and make various types of paper formation including sheet\, relief\, and three-dimensional structures.åÊ We will discuss the natural overlap between plant fibers and paper making\, learning about cellulose and how and what fibers can be harvested in Alabama. \nBring shoes that can get wet.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout the artist:åÊåÊDouglas Pierre Baulos was born in Springfield\, Illinois. In 1990\, he received a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the University of Alabama at Birmingham. In 1993\, he received a Master of Fine Arts from the University of New Orleans. His drawings\, poems\, and books have been exhibited/published both nationally and internationally. His current books are explorations (visual) and meditations (poetry) centering on his ideas of spirituality\, love\, death\, shelter\, and hope. Books\, because of their exterior/interior format\, as well as their sequential ordering\, have been of particular interest lately. The book as an object allows the viewer to be guided through a thought process as well as evoking time\, journey/text\, and image in an intimate fashion.
