Irondale Unveils New Cahaba River Canoe Launch

The City of Irondale will hold a ribbon cutting ceremony on March 1, 2016 to unveil the new Grants Mill Road Canoe Launch on the Cahaba River.  This project is a result of a collaborative effort between; The Nature Conservancy, City of Irondale, The Community Foundation , The Cahaba River Society and The Freshwater Land Trust.

The ribbon cutting ceremony will air on Fox 6 – Good Morning Alabama Show at 7AM on March 1st, as part of their Red Rock Trail Tuesday segment.

The Nature Conservancy recently completed the project to improve river access so people can launch for paddle sports, fihing, sightseeing, running and walking. With funding from the Community Foundation of Greater Birmingham, the Conservancy worked with the Freshwater Land Trust (landowner) and the City of Irondale(property manager) at the Grants Mill Road Bridge crossing the Cahaba River to improve the existing sidewalk and to construct a new stairway to access the water.
