Shades Valley 26, Vestavia Hills 21: Mounties claim first win in series since 1999

IRONDALE, Alabama — Keith Mixon scored two first-half touchdowns in a 26-21 victory that marked Shades Valley’s first win againstVestavia Hills since 1999.

The Mounties took an early 10-0 lead, led 23-7 at the half en route to snapping a losing streak that had reached 14 games in the all-times series with the Rebels. Winds whistled throughout Frank Nix Stadium as Vestavia Hills managed a late comeback to make things interesting.

Vestavia quarterback Brett Jones hit tight endGrant Logsdon for a 20-yard touchdown pass with 3:23 to go for the game’s final points. The Rebels then forced a punt and had a final chance to score as they took over at the their own 41 with 33 seconds left to play. Jones managed one completion and then killed the clock before being intercepted by Tanner Henton at the Valley 20-yard line.
