IRONDALE, Alabama – Keith Mixon accounted for 189 yards and three touchdowns and the defense did the rest as Class 6A No. 8Shades Valley (9-2) blanked Arab 34-0 in the opening round of the state playoffs at Frank Nix Athletic Complex Friday night.
Mixon rushed for 101 yards on only seven carries, scoring on runs of 35, 42 and 12 yards and also caught six passes for 88 yards.
Claude Newell stepped in for suspended starting quarterback RaShad Louie and threw for 181 yards and also ran for 24 yards and a touchdown.
“We just told him to go out and do what he does best,” said Shades Valley coach Bill Smith. “We were probably a little unfair to him a couple of times down in the red zone when they were giving us the run and we called a pass play.”
